California Man Arrested After Allegedly Severing Woman’s Head With Samurai Sword

Police have arrested a California man who is accused of severing a woman’s head with a sword.

Police have arrested a suspect named Jose Landaeta Solano, who allegedly cut off a woman’s head with a sword this past Thursday. Police arrived at the intersection of Laurel Street and Magnolia Avenue after being called over by witnesses at around 11:50 a.m., who say they saw the assault take place, NBC Bay Area reports. The woman was found dead at the scene.

“Anytime someone loses their life, it’s certainly a tragedy,” said San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Eamonn Allen during a media briefing, NBC Bay Area reports. “As far as the shocking nature of it, I do know that the deputies that first arrived on scene were a little beset by the scene. We are providing them peer support. We are also providing support for the witnesses that were on scene as well because there were several civilian witnesses.”

The victim has yet to be identified, but she leaves behind two children, a 1-year-old and a 7-year-old. Reports show the victim had a restraining order against Solano, along with a history of domestic violence. The murder weapon, which is described as a samurai sword, hasn’t been found.
