Now that Maria Sharapova has some time on her hands, she’s decided to turn a negative into a positive and find something productive to do during her time off from tennis. The 29-year-old Russian tennis star, who was suspended from the sport for two years after testing positive for a banned substance, has decided to enroll at Harvard Business School. She will be taking two business-related classes on campus over a period of two weeks.
Sharapova tested positive for meldonium, a banned substance, back in January but she was officially suspended by the International Tennis Federation in June. The ban is set to last through January 2018, though Sharapova plans to appeal it in hopes of getting a shorter suspension.
As far as venturing into the business world, Sharapova already has her own successful line of candy called Sugarpova, so she definitely knows a thing or two about being a businesswoman. Hopefully with the education she gets from Harvard, it will help to lay the foundation for a solid backup plan after tennis.
