Mariah Carey has been denied the ability to trademark the title “Queen of Christmas.”
Carey reportedly filed the trademark application in March of 2021. She planned to use the title on numerous items, including fragrances, lotions, mugs, jewelry, and nail polish.
Carey seemed to have some opposers, including holiday songwriter Elizabeth Chan, who also calls herself the “Queen of Christmas” on her website.
She referred to Carey’s attempt to trademark the title as “trademark bullying.”
According to documents, Carey had until September to respond to Chan’s opposition but failed to do so.
Chan told Daily Mail, “It is wrong for an individual to attempt to own and monopolize a nickname like Queen of Christmas for the purposes of abject materialism.”
Chan added, “My goal in taking on this fight was to stand up to trademark bullying, not just to protect myself, but also to protect future Queens of Christmas.”
