Mary J. Blige is giving us a glimpse of her personal life, which she will address in her forthcoming documentary, “My Life,” based around her 1994 sophomore album.
During a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, the R&B icon opened up about showing her fans the hardship that she endured during her life in the doc.
“To go back and actually show them where the pain came from, it was heavy, but it was nothing because those are my fans,” Blige explained. “In order to do a ‘My Life’ documentary, you have to go back and show people what happened, you know? Why it happened, and where did all this pain come from?”
The 50-year-old revealed that some of the film’s subject matter, particularly her childhood trauma, was “heavy,” leaving her questioning how she could have endured so much at such a young age.
Blige also spoke on her mother’s difficulties while trying to raise several children as a single parent while dealing with her own heartache.
“Just speaking about all of that and how my mother was single and she was trying to raise us, and she was being hurt. And she was in pain. And we all was in pain, but we were trying to survive without everyone knowing we were in pain,” Blige said.
“Mary J. Blige’s My Life” will debut exclusively on Amazon Prime Friday.
