A 23-year-old Maryland daycare employee was arrested Friday after a video of her abusing children at the center began circulating on social media.
Kayla Greenwell was charged with multiple counts of child abuse and assault.
Fox 5 reports that a viewer sent in footage of Greenwell abusing children at the Oxon Hill Center for Early Learning at about noon on Friday. The outlet forwarded the videos to the police and opened an investigation.
According to a press release from the Prince George’s County Police Department, a preliminary investigation revealed that Greenwell recorded herself abusing children on her cell phone on April 5. The daycare had only employed her since late March.
By Friday evening, the videos had been posted online and began going viral, sparking outrage. Parents that spoke with Fox 5 expressed shock and anger over the incident.
“It should’ve never happened,” Ledarra White told the outlet. She had just picked up her three-year-old son Logan from the Oxon Hill daycare. “How did it happen?”
She said she woke up to messages about the abuse and found out about it via social media instead of from the school.
PGPD said the investigation into the abuse is ongoing and ask anyone with information to contact detectives at (301) 772-4930.
