A player recognized as one of the most dominant defensive forces in NBA history is currently facing challenges in finding a team interested in his services. Basketball fans know Dwight Howard as one of the most dominant players of this era.
A shocking lawsuit was released to the public, accusing the former NBA center of sexual assault and battery allegations related to an incident that took place in July 2021 at his Georgia residence with a man named Stephen Harper, whom he met on Instagram.
Mase and Stephen A Smith addressed the allegations on their perspective shows. They had somewhat of a discouraging mood. Accepting, but there was one common theme: Dwight’s situation can be a distraction for any team.
On Wednesday’s episode of It Is What It Is, Ma$e was very blunt about what the NBA expects from its players. Even if they’re accepting of anyone, they don’t want you doing any and everything.
“People don’t care what you do on your own time,” Ma$e led with as he started his soliloquy on the Howard situation.
“People will say, ‘It don’t matter.’ But as soon as they find out, it matters. So they outing them. When it comes down to making money off the story, it matters. When it comes down to who dating you it’s gonna matter. When it comes down to if you’re gonna be in the locker room with them, it matters. Because there’s about 30 teams who didn’t sign Dwight Howard because it matters.”
Stephen A Smith had a very similar reaction to the former 3-time defensive player of the year’s lawsuit. He was speechless while being as animated as ever.
“I can’t do this no more,” said Smith while reading the report on Dwight Howard. “Get it off the screen, fet it off. You gay and that is what you want to do? Cool! I don’t have any problem living their life. I’m not here to judge. Not here to judge the transgender community. But the details.. uggh, uggh!”
Stephen A finished up very similar to Ma$e, saying, “Whether (teams) would admit it or not, and I’m not going to mention teams because I don’t want to incriminate anybody or accuse anybody or something I simply don’t know, I’m guessing. But the first thought that came to my mind ‘That’s why they don’t want (Dwight)”.
This week, Dwight Howard’s lawyers spoke out about the allegations, saying that “a private consensual encounter” had been “made public for profit.”
Alongside the sexual assault and battery claims, Harper also leveled accusations of emotional distress and false imprisonment against Howard. Howard’s legal team has vehemently refuted these allegations. Moreover, attorney Justin Bailey stated that Howard intends to place his trust in the justice system as he proceeds forward.
