Mathew Knowles is setting the record straight about what truly matters in his life: his wife, his health, and his happiness. During a candid interview with Carlos King, the 73-year-old music executive revealed that many people misunderstand who he really is.

“The one thing people don’t know is I’m a cancer survivor. Six years now. I went through cancer and COVID at the same time,” Knowles shared. Despite those dark days, he says his marriage to Gena Avery, whom he’s been with for 12 years, brought light and love into his life. “I’m so grateful that I have this wonderful woman that encourages me, and we laugh and smile, and it’s 100% authentic.”
Knowles also spoke openly about his battle with male breast cancer, a diagnosis many are unaware even exists.
“Twenty-two thousand men a year worldwide are diagnosed with male breast cancer,” he explained. His experience led him to advocate for early detection and genetic testing, especially in Black communities where risk factors are higher.
Now living a healthier, more peaceful life, Knowles says, “My best friend is my wife.” Through exercise, spirituality, and love, he’s found what he calls “authentic happiness.”
