Megan Thee Stallion surprises recipients of the Flamin’ Hot scholarship fund while visiting her alma mater, Texas Southern University.
During TSU’s Hump Day pep rally, Megan teamed up with the Ocean of Soul band to commemorate the scholarship recipients and engaged in a fireside conversation with Tracy Clemons from TSU. Earlier this year, the Flamin’ Hot scholarship fund was created with the aim of assisting graduating seniors at TSU. It is currently granting over $150,000 in scholarships to over 20 graduating seniors.
Clemons, the Associate Vice President of Marketing and Communications, revealed that organizing the surprise became challenging as word spread among campus students about potential guest appearances.
“We have been planning for her to be here as part of this partnership for quite some time. And, she’s a busy lady,” Clemons said. “And she’s performing all over the world. So, we were just excited that our alum made some time out of her schedule to come home and do this amazing thing for our students! And the students were very, very grateful.”
A portion of this funding is derived from the sales of the exclusive Flamin’ Hot University merchandise line, which was designed by fashion designer Melody Ehsani in collaboration with Megan herself.
“Y’all better go buy some this merch because it’s going to the funds so y’all helping out the graduating seniors with their student debt loans,” Megan said while speaking to TSU’s student body.
Megan Pete, the Grammy Award-winning rapper, completed her Bachelor’s degree in Health Administration from the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences at TSU in 2021. Furthermore, the university introduced a scholarship fund established in Megan’s honor. Alongside her educational achievements, Megan is renowned for her dedication to mental health advocacy, exemplified by the launch of a mental health resources website in September.
