Mia Thornton is dealing with a growing list of legal issues after being sued for eviction shortly before her arrest for allegedly stealing furniture from the same Atlanta condo she had rented.
The situation has continued to escalate as new details surface through court filings and police reports.
According to Encore Management, they filed a lawsuit on September 11 against Thornton and her former boyfriend and roommate, Jared McGriff. The company states in its filing that the pair leased a unit in Atlanta but “fail[ed] to pay rent” for the property.
Documents obtained by Us Weekly show the past due amount for September totaled $5,100, and the company requested that Thornton and McGriff also be responsible for $6,085 per month until a final judgment is reached. The management company asked the court to remove both tenants from the property and recover all unpaid rent.
The financial dispute gained further attention after Thornton was arrested earlier this week at Hartsfield-Jackson airport in Atlanta. Law enforcement was notified at the Customs and Border Protection office that there was a wanted person present, which led officers to take Thornton into custody.
A police report obtained by CBS News outlines the accusation that Thornton stole approximately $11,000 worth of furniture from the same luxury condo where the rent had allegedly gone unpaid. The report connects the theft directly to the unit cited in the lawsuit, deepening the legal challenges she now faces.
The former “Real Housewives of Potomac” cast member has not issued a public statement addressing the eviction lawsuit or the accusations of theft.
