Mia Thornton’s arrest shook “Real Housewives of Potomac” fans, and now, more has been revealed about exactly what she was accused of taking in the alleged furniture theft.
A felony warrant secured by FOX 5 Atlanta claims Fields Thornton and co-tenant Jared McGriff removed high-value furnishings from a fully furnished condo they rented in the 700 block of West Marietta Street NW, Unit 1805. The affidavit states that the lease required every item in the unit to stay inside the condo.
Investigators say the two moved out abruptly in the middle of the night on October 28. The warrant lists a variety of missing furniture, including a TV, a dining room table, seven dining chairs, two accent tables, a sectional couch, a floor lamp, two patio chairs, a patio table, and the fireplace remote. Property management gave police receipts, move-in photos, and valuation documents showing that the missing items totaled $11,022.15.
The condo owner, who lives overseas, learned what happened from a property manager and filed a police report on November 6. Atlanta Police reviewed the evidence and issued the felony Theft by Taking warrant.
Thornton was arrested on Wednesday at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. She faces a felony because Georgia law elevates Theft by Taking once the value surpasses $1,500. Thornton is expected in Fulton County court on Thursday morning. It’s unclear if McGriff will also be charged.
According to a listing on Apartments.com, the 2,000-square-foot unit with 3 bedrooms and 3 baths rented for approximately $7,000 per month.
