After decades of reported separation and discrimination amongst black actors in Hollywood, Warner Brothers has announced a new company-wide policy of inclusion, according to the Los Angeles Times. The movement will be a partnership with actor Michael B. Jordan.
“Inclusivity has always been a no-brainer for me, especially as a black man in this business,” Jordan said. “[But] it wasn’t until Frances McDormand spoke the two words that set the industry on fire — inclusion rider — that I realized we could standardize this practice.”
The policy will reportedly call for the inclusion of more women, people of color, people with disabilities, and members of the #LGBT community, in productions produced by the company and all of its sub-companies.
While the company did not issue official guidelines of their new policy, a spokesperson stated that Warner Brothers promises to “engage with our writers, producers, and directors to create a plan for implementing this commitment to diversity and inclusion on our projects, with the goal of providing opportunities for individuals from under-represented groups at all levels.”
The company will also issue an annual report on the details of their inclusivity.
