Nearly 2 Million Dozen Eggs Recalled Over Salmonella Fears, 79 Infected Across 7 States

Milo’s Poultry Farms LLC, based in Bonduel, Wisconsin, has issued a recall of all eggs under its own brand and the “Tony’s Fresh Market” brand following a salmonella outbreak that has sickened dozens across the United States. The recall, announced on Friday, affects all cartons labeled “Milo’s Poultry Farms” and “Tony’s Fresh Market,” regardless of the expiration date.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that 65 consumers have become ill from salmonella, with 24 requiring hospitalization. While no deaths have been reported, salmonella can cause serious symptoms such as vomiting, dehydration, and fever, particularly in children and the elderly.

The recalled eggs were distributed to stores and restaurants in Michigan, Wisconsin, and Illinois, but the outbreak has impacted nine states in total, including Virginia, Iowa, Minnesota, Colorado, Utah, and California. The recall was initiated after the FDA informed Milo’s Poultry Farms that environmental samples tested positive for the bacteria. Whole genome sequencing by the FDA linked the samples to an ongoing salmonella outbreak investigation.

The CDC advises consumers to discard or return any eggs from the affected brands and to thoroughly clean items and surfaces that may have come into contact with them. Milo’s Poultry Farms, an Amish family-run business, has paused operations during the recall to conduct necessary testing and sanitization of their farms and processing equipment.

For more information or concerns, consumers can contact Milo’s Poultry Farms at (715) 758-6709.
