On Tuesday, Democrats in the House and the Senate reintroduced a bill that would raise the federal minimum wage to $15 by 2025.

Many lawmakers do not support the increase, believing that increasing the wage could hurt small businesses and possibly reduce employment. However, a Congressional Budget Office analysis found that raising the wage would decrease poverty, bringing 1.3 million Americans above the poverty line.
If the Raise the Wage Act passes, it will boost the federal minimum wage to $9.50. From there, the rate would continue to increase every year until it reaches $15 in 2025. The Act would also eliminate the tipped minimum wage for restaurant service employees and the youth minimum wage and lower minimum wages for workers with disabilities.
