If you thought that Mo’Nique was done speaking her piece on her ongoing conflict with Netflix, well, you thought wrong.
For those of you who don’t know, allegedly, Netflix offered the 50-year-old $500,000 to do a comedy special, while others like Amy Schumer, Chris Rock, and Dave Chapelle had million-dollar deals on the table.
As a result of this, Mo’Nique took to her Instagram to ask everyone to “stand with her” and “boycott” the streaming network for the disparity in pay, which quickly stirred a huge controversy on social media.
Now, nearly two weeks later, the situation still remains a prominent topic. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Recently, entertainment journalist Jawn Murray claimed that Netflix was actually willing to hand the comedic actress a total of $3 million for the special, but, first, she had to audition. And, according to Murray, Mo’Nique refused.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
However, during their recent interview on the ‘Tom Joyner Morning Show’, Mo’Nique’s husband, Sidney Hicks, spoke out against Murray’s allegation.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“No one would promise you what they’re going to give you based upon the condition of what you’ve done,” Hicks expressed. “I would be interested to know how Jawn Murray knows a deal better than we do… when there were only four people in that conversation [with Netflix]. [So], to answer your question, no.”
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Subsequently, the ‘Almost Christmas’ actress proved her case, even more, and exposed email receipts from a Netflix rep that included confirmation of the fee that she initially said she was offered, as well as the terms and conditions of what would come with doing the project.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In the caption of the photo posted to Instagram, Mo’Nique writes, “Netflix offer. #jawnmurray is this a 3 million dollar offer?”
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Aside from the designated compensation, the stipulations noted that, if she agreed to sign the deal, Mo’Nique would be prohibited from taping or negotiating with third parties for one year, and the material used in the comedy special would not be able to be performed in any other recording program for up to two years.
