MTV Takes On “Ghosting” With New Reality Show, Critics Say The Show Romanticizes Stalking

As if MTV’s ‘Catfish’ wasn’t entertaining enough, the network has released a clip announcing a new show reality show titled “Ghosted: Love Gone Missing,” and if you’ve ever been ghosted, it may pull on your heart strings a bit.

For the uninformed, ghosting is the act of “disappearing” or completing cutting off communication with a friend or potential mate unexpectedly. In the new Catfish-style reality series, recording artist Travis Mills and the first black Bachelorette Rachel Lindsay, help people who have been broken hearted by a lover’s disappearing act by finding and confronting them about what went wrong.

“Have you ever been ghosted? Totally left in the dark by someone you care about? No text. No DMs. Nothing,” Mills says in the first-look.

Although the clip looks super suspenseful with a lot of messy moments, many people have criticized the series for seemingly promoting harassment and stalking.

One Twitter user wrote, “So y’all basically took a term from social media to turn it into a reality show. Ok. However. Trying to “track down” the person that ghosted you, is stalking. A show about obsessed stalkers. As a therapist, I know my field is secure financially. Holy sh*t.”

Another user tweeted, “I think this is awful. As much as being ghosted can be confusing and hurtful… I don’t think it justifies being THIS invasive. Stalking someone for the world to watch? Hell nah.”

Twitter user Keyara Foxx gave a simple example of what viewers could actually see on the show, tweeting, “Me: I ghosted you cause your breath stank … you ain’t need to bring a camera crew for me to tell you that … now look we all here looking at each other look at me.”

Do you think “Ghosted” is a good show idea? Or is it taking things too far?
