Following his severe car accident, MTV‘s The Challenge star Nelson Thomas decides to have his foot amputated.

Thomas endured numerous surgeries and an extended hospital stay since his rescue last March from his burning vehicle in Austin, Texas, thanks to the efforts of Minnesota Vikings player K.J. Osborn and three other kind-hearted individuals. However, on Sunday, the reality TV star revealed his decision to undergo amputation, setting his surgery date for March 5, 2024, ironically, a year after the accident.

“March 5, 2023 remains vivid in my memory, a persistent presence in my thoughts,” Thomas wrote in an Instagram post. “I consciously embrace it as the initiation of a new chapter. Opting for amputation, I am determined to own March 5 and redefine its significance in my life.”

He continued, “Get ready, amputation world! I’m on my way! I am scheduled for surgery on March 5, 2024.”

In March 2023, Thomas was involved in a significant car accident in Austin. Minnesota Vikings wide receiver K.J. Osborn and three other kind strangers came across the scene and assisted in rescuing Thomas from the burning car.

Subsequently, it was revealed that Thomas had been driving under the influence, sparking controversy as the reality star had initiated a GoFundMe campaign without disclosing this detail. Thomas has since issued an apology and taken responsibility for the crash.

Thomas first entered The Challenge scene in 2016 during season 28, and his presence was intermittent until season 38. Additionally, he participated in spin-off series such as The Challenge: Untold History and The Challenge: World Championship. Outside of The Challenge franchise, Thomas has also been featured on reality TV shows like Are You the One? and Ex on the Beach.
