New Poll Shows Most Hispanic Voters Believe U.S. Is on the Wrong Track, Blame Trump for Economic Woes

Most U.S. Latino voters believe the nation is veering off course, and they largely hold Donald Trump responsible, a new UnidosUS survey shows.

Released Monday, the poll found that 60 percent of Latino voters say the country is heading in the wrong direction, with 70 percent blaming Trump. Four of the top priorities for Hispanic voters are “pocketbook issues,” especially the cost of living and inflation. Nearly half, 49 percent, pin rising everyday costs on Trump, while many feel he and congressional Republicans aren’t doing enough to bring those expenses down.

“Latino voters are frustrated that their economic priorities are being ignored and that a key promise made by President Trump during the election is not being kept,” said UnidosUS President and CEO Janet Murguía.

Tariffs are also a point of contention, as 66 percent say Trump’s tariff agenda reduces economic opportunity, and 64 percent call it a bad trade decision. Despite Trump’s gains among Latino voters in 2024, economic dissatisfaction runs deep.

“Over half of Hispanic voters feel the economy is worse now than a year ago, and nearly as many believe it will be worse a year from now,” Murguía noted.

Concern extends beyond economics: Two-thirds say the rule of law is failing and the Constitution is being violated under Trump. The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), led by Elon Musk, is also viewed unfavorably by over 60 percent of respondents, with 52 percent disapproving of its widespread federal layoffs.

The bilingual poll surveyed 1,002 Latino voters from April 11–19.
