Nicki Minaj Avoids Criminal Charges in Detroit Assault Case as Investigation Continues

Nicki Minaj will not face criminal charges in relation to her assault lawsuit, at least not yet.

On Monday, the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office announced it had denied a warrant request due to insufficient evidence of a crime. However, it called for further investigation by Detroit police into the incident, reportedly occurring at 2:30 p.m. on April 21st, 2024, at Little Caesars Arena.

The allegations stem from a lawsuit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court by Brandon Garrett, a former employee of Minaj. According to prosecutors, Garrett, 40, from California, accuses the rapper of assault, battery, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. He claims the “Star Ships” star berated him over delegating a prescription pickup, threatened his career, and struck him with an open hand. Additionally, Garrett claims the 42-year-old stated she would have her husband, Kenneth Petty, assault him. Garrett says he was forced to hide from the rapper.

Minaj’s lawyer dismissed the accusations as “completely false and frivolous,” expressing confidence in her eventual vindication, TMZ first reported. Meanwhile, Garrett’s lawsuit has drawn increased media scrutiny as the legal battle unfolds.

Neither side’s legal team addressed the decision publicly. For now, Minaj is also remaining silent, seemingly taking a hiatus from social media.
