Nicki Minaj isn’t holding back her thoughts on the recent shakeup at Atlantic Records. Following the news that the label laid off a significant number of staff members as part of its ongoing reorganization, the rap queen took to social media to share some career advice for those affected.
Atlantic Music Group CEO Robert Kyncl announced the layoffs on Thursday, September 19, through a company-wide memo. While the exact number of employees impacted wasn’t revealed, industry sources told Billboard that around 150 to 175 staff members have lost their jobs in this latest wave of restructuring. The cuts come as part of Atlantic’s efforts to adapt to a rapidly changing music landscape.
Always one to speak her mind, Nicki Minaj addressed the situation on X (formerly Twitter) with a series of tweets. “Dear fired executives & A&Rs: Don’t be mad, UPS is hiring,” she wrote.
But the “Super Freaky Girl” rapper didn’t stop there. She extended an invitation to those looking for a fresh start, suggesting they apply to her own record label, Heavy On It. “Also, feel free to submit your resumes for a job @ #HeavyOnIt,” she added, hinting that opportunities might be available on her team.

Atlantic’s restructuring efforts are part of a broader trend within the music industry, as labels navigate the challenges of the digital age and shifts in consumer behavior. CEO Robert Kyncl’s memo reportedly emphasized the need for the company to be more agile and responsive to market changes, but it’s little consolation for the employees who have suddenly found themselves out of work.
