According to TMZ, bootleggers based in China have been selling fake Marathon-related merchandise, and Nipsey Hussle‘s estate is not happy about it.
Samiel Asghedom, the late rapper’s brother and estate administrator, has filed a lawsuit against various companies behind a slew of e-commerce websites selling imitation Marathon-related items.
Asghedom argues the estate is entitled to many trademarks but claims that the websites use the trademarks without their consent.
It also indicates that the e-commerce sites are specifically targeting individuals in Illinois, which is why the lawsuit is being brought before the Illinois Federal Court.
According to the lawsuit, there is obvious evidence that the sites are linked, such as misspelling, a similar checkout process, ad strategies, and accepting payments.
The estate also believes that many of these sites in China are working together to hide their identities by using multiple operating systems and domain hosting services.
Nipsey’s estate wants the judge to order the sites to hand over their domain registrations and large monetary damages, whether it be all the earnings from merch sales or $2 million per infraction.
