North Carolina Defeats Gonzaga to Win NCAA Championship and Social Media Concludes that The Ceiling is Indeed the Roof

Carolina

Last month, basketball legend Michael Jordan stood before the fans of his alma mater to announce that the Jordan brand relationship will be expanding to the North Carolina basketball and football teams. During his speech, he spoke on the great things he foresaw for the UNC Tar Heels, saying “the ceiling is the roof, let’s make it happen!” Which, sent social media into a frenzy. Although, Jordan is no stranger to internet slander, as his crying face has become one of the most popular memes on the internet, his “ceiling is the roof” statement gave the meme a run for its money. But, since then, after weeks of inquiry, the phrase has been given a new meaning…or we are finally realizing what Jordan meant when he said, “the ceiling is the roof.”

Last night, the University of North Carolina Tar Heels took on Gonzaga University Bulldogs in the NCAA Championship Game. While, the Tar Heels were fighting for redemption, after last years devastating loss to Villanova, the Bulldogs were fighting for their first title. However, Gonzaga came up short after a jump ball that turned the tables for the Washington team and subsequently cost them the game.

Late in the fourth, Gonzaga’s Nigel Williams-Gross hit a short 2-pointer to give the team a two-point lead over the Tar Heels, however, it was Justin Jackson’s 3-point play that sealed the deal for the boys in blue. With just seconds left on the clock and the Tar Heels up one, Isaiah Hicks drove to the basket, draining a layup bringing the North Carolina team closer to victory with a 3-point lead over Gonzaga. On the next possession, in an attempt to cut the lead back down to one, Williams-Gross put one up, but was denied by Kennedy Meeks. Justin Jackson took it back down to the opposite end, slamming one down with 11.4 seconds left for a 70-65 North Carolina lead over the Bulldogs. It was over, Meeks got a steal with 7 seconds left on the clock, as disappointment began to settle in for the Bulldogs.

That is when it all made sense, the ceiling was really, truly the roof.

UNC fans took to Twitter to express their excitement for their six NCAA title.

“The ceiling is where they keep the banners, thus, a championship banner is the roof. Mystery solved,” one user tweeted.

“It’s a great day to be a Tar Heel!!! The ceiling is the roof!” another said.

“I told y’all to stay woke because the ceiling really is the roof but y’all wanted to make more Jordan jokes. Well who is laughing now, b?” RealLifeKaz wrote.

Congrats to UNC, the ceiling is the roof.
