The NYPD has released photos of the suspect involved in the deadly shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson and is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to his arrest. Authorities are calling the killing a “brazen, targeted attack,” which took place early Wednesday morning as Thompson was en route to a company investor conference in Midtown Manhattan.
Surveillance footage shows the suspect, described as a Caucasian male, wearing black and white sneakers, a cream-colored jacket, a black face mask, and a distinctive gray backpack. In one image, the suspect is seen holding a gun, and in another, he is riding an e-bike in a crosswalk. Investigators say the suspect waited at the scene for several minutes, appearing to target Thompson directly. After the shooting, the suspect fled on foot before escaping on an e-bike, last seen entering Central Park on Center Drive.
Police are working with the e-bike company to track the GPS locator on the bike in hopes of locating the suspect. Witnesses near the scene are being sought for questioning, and the community is being urged to come forward with any information.
Officers responded to the shooting just before 7 a.m. after receiving a 911 call. Thompson was found with a gunshot wound to his chest and was transported to Mount Sinai West in critical condition, where he was later pronounced dead. Investigators believe a silencer was used in the attack, further indicating it was premeditated.
At a press conference, the NYPD stated their “full investigative efforts” are underway and emphasized the calculated nature of the killing. “Every indication is that this was a premeditated, pre-planned, targeted attack,” officials said.
