The NYPD is reportedly removing drill rappers from Rolling Loud New York’s lineup.
One of the city’s biggest event began on Friday but rappers Sha Ek, 22Gz, and Ron Suno were not in attendance for the celebration. The city claimed that allowing the rappers to perform will increase violence in the city. New York cited the rapper’s affiliation “with recent acts of citywide violence” as the reason for the removal.
The city’s judgement mirrors Rolling Loud’s 2019 decision to remove Pop Smoke and 22Gz from the lineup.
“The New York City Police Department believes if these individuals are allowed to perform, there will be a higher risk of violence,” an assistant NY police chief said in 2019.
Sha Ek’s manager, Stanley Davis, recently spoke about the police’s decision to pull his artist from the lineup. He explains that his artist hasn’t broken any laws or committed any crimes.
“The police try to associate what he’s doing with violence and negativity,” Davis noted. “They don’t respect that he’s an artist and entertainer trying to better himself and feed his family at 19 years old.”
Sha El also addressed the decision saying, “Still got love for Rolling Loud. NYPD don’t want to see me win.”
