In the days since the tragic death of Wu-Tang Clan producer CEO Oliver “Power” Grant, new details have emerged. The longtime music executive and Wu Wear clothing line leader died from pancreatic cancer, according to a statement shared by the group. He was 55, slightly older than the age widely reported when news of his passing first circulated last week.
The Wu-Tang Clan confirmed the cause of death in a social media tribute that also honored Grant’s deep ties to Staten Island.
“Born November 24, 1970, in Staten Island, New York, the man the world knows as ‘Power’ — and his oldest friends knew as ‘Pookie’ — was a proud product of the Park Hill neighborhood,” the group wrote.

His battle with cancer was described as “courageous and hard-fought.” The Wu-Tang Clan said a wake for Grant will take place on March 13. A funeral is planned for the following day, with services expected in the New York City area. Specific locations have not yet been announced.
“The Grant and Wu-Tang families are profoundly thankful for the overwhelming outpouring of love and support from around the world,” the statement read. Health experts note that pancreatic cancer is rarely detected early, according to information from the Mayo Clinic. Because of that, the disease is often found after it has spread to other organs.
“We couldn’t have done it without him,” rapper GZA said Sunday night.
