Omari Hardwick Discusses How His Life Influenced Ghost in "Power": "The Actor is Never That Far from Who They Are" [Video]

Omari Hardwick says he earned $150,000 an episode while playing James St. Patrick on the hit Starz series Power, adding that 50 Cent loaned him money twice during that time.

Longtime actor Omari Hardwick recently appeared on The Pivot podcast, where he opened up about a variety of topics, including his acting career, his decision to marry outside of his race and his beloved role as “Ghost” on Power. When discussing Power, Hardwick says he never made what he believes he should have.

“I still haven’t made what I should have made. I still never made the money—no, the money, I never made what I should have made. Never,” Harwick said. “Period. It’s happening now, finally.”

When The Pivot co-host Ryan Clark tried to guess how much Hardwick made on Power, he brought up Angela Bassett’s lead role salary on the Fox series 9-1-1.

“Angela Bassett makes $250,000 on 9-1-1; she’s the highest paid,” said Clark.

“She makes $250,000 a week?” questioned Hardwick.

“So, you had to — at least — $150,000,” said Clark.

“No, then you got it right,” said Hardwick. “First time I’ve ever disclosed it. But, I was also the face of the network. Angela’s not the face of that network. She’s one of the greatest actresses to have ever graced the planet, but she’s not the face of that network.”

He then spoke on how he paid back 50 Cent – Power’s executive producer and co-star— after the business mogul loaned him money twice.

“I think he forever just really really respects the shit out of me for that, we just not taught that in our community. Barely do we pay anybody back,” said Hardwick.

“So once we’re hit up for money, and I am financially obviously stable at this point, once we’re hit up for money we don’t expect it back. … So for me to give it back to 50 with interest, I was just so proud to be able to do that. And it was early! He felt like, ‘Damn, you can’t be messed up, you need money!” He continued, saying Fif gave him $20,000 “and the next summer he gave me $23,000.”
