One person was killed and another critically injured at a party in Melbourne Beach, Florida, Saturday evening in what police are calling a gang-related shooting.
The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office received a call around 6:30 p.m. for a person that had been shot at Spessard Holland Park. Officers located a male victim that was transported to a nearby hospital and listed in critical condition.
While responding, officers encountered a vehicle on the 192 Causeway that flagged them down. One of the occupants had been shot and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspects fled the scene of the shooting in a truck, which was eventually stopped by police. The occupants fled, but two individuals were apprehended and taken into custody.
“From everything our investigation has shown us so far, this activity is all gang-related,” Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey said of the shooting.
The incident is still under investigation, and police are working to interview potential witnesses and collect evidence. Police are asking anyone with information to contact Agent Neil Lee of the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit via the Communications Center at 321-952-6371 or CRIMELINE at 1-800-423-TIPS (8477).
