A teenager has been arrested, and another is wanted for the shooting at Morgan State University that left five people wounded.
The teen, only identified as a 17-year-old, was taken into custody on Thursday in Washington, D.C. CBS News reports that he has been charged with several counts of attempted murder. A second teen, 18-year-old Jovan Williams, is also wanted for his role in the shooting.
The chaos took place last week, which was the start of the school’s homecoming festivities. An argument of some sort took place close by the Marshall Apartment Complex dorms between two groups. Police believe three people involved had guns and fired their weapons. All five victims, four of which being students, were rushed to the hospital. Thankfully, all had non-life-threatening injuries. The remaining homecoming activities were canceled for the first time in the school’s history.
Classes have since resumed at Morgan State, though uneasiness persists. In the wake of the shooting, students and faculty members have raised concerns about people being easily able to access the campus. School officials have since announced plans to build a wall around the premises to keep out non-students and employees. It’s not believed that the assailants were attendees of the school, and it’s unclear why they were there or who they were on the campus to meet.
Authorities have only released an image of Williams, withholding the identity and image of the underage suspect. Williams is considered armed and dangerous. Anyone who encounters him should call police immediately.
