A man was arrested for shooting five and killing one during a Sunday Mardi Gras Parade in New Orleans.
On Monday, police identified the shooter as 21-year-old Mansour Mbodj.
Mdodj was apprehended “within moments” before the shooting around 9:30 p.m., according to interim police chief Michelle Woodfork. He was booked with second-degree murder, New Orleans police announced Monday.
Police reported one of those injured was a child. They claimed officers heard gunshots ring out while on patrol at the parade and found five victims.
According to the police chief, four of the victims who suffered injuries had been released from the hospital by Monday. The injured were identified as a 4-year-old girl, an 18-year-old man, a 22-year-old woman, and a 24-year-old woman.
“This is not something we wanted to see,” said Ganthier. “We wanted this to be a safe Mardi Gras.”
WWL reported that the parade was temporarily paused but then allowed to continue.
