Police have arrested a second person connected to the disappearance of a North Carolina mother who went missing last year.
Jarlyn Lisbeth Sluss was just arrested and charged with obstruction of justice and accessory for her involvement in the murder of 23-year-old Monica Moynan. Police arrested and charged Sluss’s ex-husband Brian, 44, with murder, and they believe he was the last person to see Moynan alive. He is also believed to be Moynan’s ex-boyfriend.
According to PEOPLE, Moynan went missing in July 2019, four months after Moynan’s mother said she’d last seen her. Since then, police presumed she was killed by Brian. The outlet reports the Holly Springs mother might have also been pregnant when she was killed; police believe Brian used Moynan’s phone to text her friends and relatives for months. “We believe that Monica being pregnant may have been a factor in the incidents that led up to Monica’s death,” the warrant read. Sluss was arrested on Tuesday, and no word has been released about whether or not she’s entered a plea to the two charges.
Moynan’s mother is pleased by Sluss’s arrest. “Jarlyn Sluss had several months to contact us or the [Holly Springs Police Department] with any information that could have alerted us sooner that something had happened to Monica,” she wrote in a statement. “She knew something, but instead of coming forward, she chose to help him, which included impersonating Monica as also stated in warrants. And this is just what we know. Ten months later, she has continued to withhold. Justice will now be served.”
Brian has also not entered a plea; police say Brian has a history of assault cases against him. Moynan had also taken out a Domestic Violence Protection Order against him, ABC 11 reports.
