If you’ve used Instagram or Tiktok in the past three years, you are likely familiar with YouTubers Tequan and Asia Hines. After their latest stunt went viral in a horrible way, the couple was forced to speak out in their own defense.
The pair, known for their viral fight skits, disgusted their fans days ago when they shared a video of themselves walking through a supermarket and sticking their tongues inside a tub of Blue Bell ice cream before putting it back inside the freezer. In the 19-second clip, the duo then runs away, laughing. The now-deleted video angered their over 400,000 followers on IG, forcing them to delete the clip. Unfortunately, the damage was done. The stunt attracted so much heat that people began calling the police department in the couple’s hometown to report them. The Portsmouth Police Department in Virginia even confirmed they were looking into the incident.
With a potential legal matter on their hands and fans turning against them, the couple was forced to explain their actions. According to Tequan, the ice cream had actually been purchased prior to recording. He showed an empty container and explained that the entire thing was just a prank.
“Me and Asia is not nasty people,” he explained before he requested that viewers “Quit being stupid.”
Thankfully for the partners, shortly after receiving the complaints, the Virginia State Police, who’d also joined the investigation, was able to verify that the ice cream was indeed bought before the two hit record. They only placed it back in the freezer for the duration of the stunt and retrieved it shortly afterward.
This is not the first time the couple has faced backlash. One video of Asia dousing Tequan with baby powder and placing a bag over his head went viral years ago, prompting concerns about domestic violence. Hopefully, these two can get back to making people laugh instead of causing such a stir.
The grocery store where the hoax took place has not commented publicly.
