President Joe Biden is putting measures in place that will make child and home care less expensive for Americans.Â
On Tuesday, Biden signed the executive order that gives some relief to caregivers and families alike. The initiative includes over 50 directives that address long-term care and daycare, which has become increasingly costly. A 2021 study found that the average cost of child care is $226 a week for one child. The Biden administration says far too many families struggle with these types of fees, especially those with multiple children. These costs are even higher for adult care and long-term medical support.Â
One of the goals of the order is to supply veterans with more access to home care services. It is also looking to expand federal coverage, making this necessity cheaper for families. This action is one that Biden has advocated for since his campaign. During his 2020 run, he proposed a $775 billion investment into caregiving over a ten-year period. In his 2024 budget, Biden proposed $600 billion for early education and daycare. Unfortunately, getting the House on board with these new provisions will be an uphill battle for Biden. Still, the administration argues that the lack of affordable care negatively impacts the economy and prevents women from working as much as men.Â
Renewed efforts for affordable care is just the latest push that coincides with Biden’s re-election efforts. The 80-year-old is expected to announce his next presidential run in the upcoming days. His caregiving interests are sure to be a selling point for him as well as the current housing crisis.Â
