A Purdue University student has been arrested in connection to the death of his roommate.
At around 12:45 a.m. on Wednesday, a student named Ji Min “Jimmy” Sha contacted police about his 20-year-old roommate’s death. Sha is a junior and International student from Korea who is studying cybersecurity. His roommate was Varun Manish Chheda, an Indianapolis senior studying data science, NBC News reports.
According to the school’s police chief, Lesley Wiete, details about Varun’s death haven’t been released. However, he shared the victim died on the first floor of McCutcheon Hall.
Wiete said Sha was taken into custody, and there’s an ongoing investigation into the matter. Sha has yet to be booked.
“I believe this was unprovoked and senseless,” said Wiete, who mentioned that both students weren’t asleep when the incident occurred. She also said the 911 call came from the room, and Varun and Sha were the only ones there at the time.
