R. Kelly’s legal team says the singer is being held in harsh conditions after he asked for emergency protection from threats behind bars, according to AllHipHop.
Now in solitary confinement, Kelly is reportedly sleeping in a dark cell with spiders crawling over him and surviving without food, an alleged punishment for speaking out.
Currently serving a 30-year sentence at the Federal Correctional Complex in Butner, North Carolina, Kelly filed a motion claiming a murder plot involving both the Aryan Brotherhood and prison staff. His lawyers say this isn’t speculation.
“There is evidence that R. Kelly’s life is threatened by prison officials and other inmates,” the filing states. “He is the target of a murder plot orchestrated by people who work in the prison system.”
Following the emergency motion, Kelly was moved to solitary.
“Mr. Kelly is now living in solitary confinement,” said his attorney, Beau B. Brindley. “He cannot call his family. He cannot eat his own food… Mr. Kelly has spiders crawling over him as he tries to sleep.”
Brindley added that Kelly fears eating prison meals due to threats of poisoning.
“Mr. Kelly is afraid to eat that food. So he has been without food for two days.”
His legal team is now pushing for temporary home confinement, arguing Kelly is being treated like a criminal for simply asking for help.
