Popular drill rapper Sheff G has found himself in hot water as part of a New York City gang bust.
On Tuesday, the Brooklyn artist was charged among 32 other suspected gang members, all accused of belonging to the 8 Trey Crips and the 9 Ways gang. Authorities believe the two crews teamed up to establish power across gang territories. According to the 140-count indictment, the group was responsible for dozens of shootings and at least one murder. Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez believes Sheff G and fellow rapper Sleepy Hallow were the big ballers who paid for a lavish dinner party at a Manhattan steakhouse to celebrate a 2020 shooting in Prospect Lefferts Gardens that left 23-year-old Theodore Senior dead and five others injured. NYPD Deputy Chief Jason Savino revealed that Sheff and Hallow wore matching outfits at the celebratory dinner and gifted one guest of honor with a custom gold necklace with the victim’s nickname engraved.
Police believe Senior was targeted because he was an alleged member of the Folk Nation gang, a rival organization. Sheff’s sister, Crystal Williams, is being accused of participating in the hit by texting her brother, instructing him that a member of Folk Nation “had to get hit or killed.” The shooting took place shortly after. Investigators allege Sheff confirmed with another gang member via text that the hit on Senior was successful. Gonzalez believes Sheff ordered another shooting of a rival he suspected of shooting up his house, which was also documented in a text message.
Sheff, 24, and Hallow, 23, rose to fame by putting out music together before attracting RCA Records, who offered both men a deal in 2020. The two have garnered large fanbases, with Sheff attracting one million Instagram followers, while Hallow is close behind him with 825,000. His record, “2055,” sports an impressive 125 million Youtube views, with Sheff’s visualizer for “Weight On Me” garnering 42 million views.
Gonzalez made it clear during Tuesday’s press conference that not a “single lyric” was used to build the indictment or prove the crimes against Sheff, Hallow, and the rest of their crew.
