On Tuesday, rapper Yak Gotti’s mother was arrested for attempting to sneak tobacco products and rolling papers into the Fulton County courtroom.
According to jail records, Latasha Kendrick, 51, was charged with one count of criminal attempts to commit a misdemeanor.
Gotti, also known as Deamonte Kendrick, is one of the 14 defendants charged in the YSL Rico Indictment, along with rapper Young Thug.
The incident occurred Tuesday when Latasha Kendrick appeared at the courthouse to drop off some clothes for her son, who was in court for jury selection.
According to Gotti’s lawyer, Douglas Weinstein, he had received a text from Nyesha Cox, the mother of Kendrick’s child, before giving him the bag of clothing.
According to the affidavit, “Weinstein told the deputy he received a text from ‘D. Kendrick’s baby mother, ‘NAE,’ stating that she had placed a sealed envelope inside of the bag.”
Investigators say that when searching the bag, they found tobacco products and rolling papers stuffed in an envelope.
Police then confronted Latasha, who later denied having any knowledge of the envelope, claiming Cox had put together the bag for her to give to his lawyer.
Latasha Kendrick was arrested. A warrant for Cox’s arrest has also been issued by the authorities, but she has not yet been taken into custody.
