Rayshard Brooks Was Killed The Day Before Celebrating His Daughter’s Birthday

Another child’s life will forever be affected due to losing their father at the hands of a police officer.

Rayshard Brooks, 27, was shot and killed on Friday evening in Atlanta by a police officer the day before he was supposed to be celebrating his daughter’s birthday.

Brook’s 8-year-old daughter had on her birthday dress Saturday morning waiting on her dad to come and pick her up to take her skating, according to the family’s attorney Justin Miller.

His oldest daughter was having her birthday party on Saturday. “They had a birthday for her…with cupcakes,” Miller stated in a news conference on Saturday. “While we were sitting there talking to her mom about why her dad’s not coming home.”

Miller continued in the press conference how Brooks had celebrated with his daughter a day earlier. He had taken his daughter to get her nails done, and then they went and ate afterward.

Rayshard Brooks was a father to three daughters ages 1, 2, and 8-years-old. Brooks also a stepson.

“We sat with (Brooks’ children) today and watched them play and laugh and be oblivious to the facts that their dad was murdered on camera,” family attorney L. Chris Stewart said in the news conference.

“A scene that we keep repeating as we watched Gianna Floyd play in Houston, oblivious to that her dad was knelt on and murdered. How many more examples will there be?”

Since the murder of Brooks, Atlanta Police Chief Erika Shields has resigned, the officer who shot Brooks has been fired (Garrett Rolfe), and the second officer was placed on Administrative Leave.
