New skeletal remains found in Texas have been identified as the missing Fort Hood soldier Gregory Morales.
A tip to the police of Kileen, Texas, led them to a nearby field where the remains of 24-year-old Morales of Sapulpa, Oklahoma, were found on Friday, according to DFW.CBSlocal.com. Authorities believe foul play was involved, but an autopsy has been scheduled to determine the manner of death, according to a release from Army CID public affairs chief Chris Grey.
“The First Team is saddened by the news of the passing of PV2 Gregory Morales. His life was taken too soon, and we appreciate his service to our nation,” said Maj. Gen. Jeffery Broadwater, commander, 1st Cavalry Division. The last time Morales was seen was back in August when he was driving his personal car outside of Fort Hood. The outlet reports that he was going to be discharged within days after he disappeared.
Police are offering a $25,000 reward for anyone with credible information about Morales’ death. Morales, who was also known as Gregory Wendel, joined the Army in June 2015 as a motor transport operator and was assigned to the 1st Sustainment Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood since November 2016, according to the Army.
No details have confirmed that Morales’ death is related to Pfc. Vanessa Guillen from Fort Hood, who disappeared in April. Guillen’s remains are still missing. The reward for information on Guillen is now $55,000.
