A group of Health and Human Services employees is joining Bernie Sanders in his push for Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to resign.
More than 1,000 current and former employees of the agency are demanding RFK Jr. step down, citing deep concerns over his leadership. The collective voiced their stance through a sharply worded letter addressed to Congress and Donald Trump, delivered on September 3rd.
“Our oath requires us to speak out when the Constitution is violated and the American people are put at risk,” the letter states. “Secretary Kennedy’s actions are compromising the health of this nation.”
Among their grievances are Kennedy’s decision to slash funding for mRNA vaccine research and his firing of CDC Director Susan Monarez, which triggered several other resignations at the agency. The signees accuse him of letting partisan politics override science-based health policy.
“We believe health policy should be based on strong, evidence-based principles,” the letter says, “not political ideology.”
Despite the backlash, HHS Communications Director Andrew Nixon defended Kennedy, saying, “Secretary Kennedy has been clear: the CDC has been broken for a long time. Fixing it requires real reform.
The Trump administration has stood firmly behind Kennedy. White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller said, “Secretary Kennedy has been a crown jewel of this administration.
Still, the criticism continues to mount. A similar letter was sent in August, and former CDC directors have also sounded the alarm, calling his actions “unlike anything our country has ever experienced.
The pressure is growing, but for now, Kennedy shows no signs of stepping down.
