Richard Simmons’ spokesperson has clarified that he is not terminally ill, following a Facebook post that suggested otherwise.
On Monday, Simmons shared a message on his verified social media pages stating, “I have some news to tell you. Please don’t be sad. I am…dying. Oh, I can see your faces now. The truth is, we all are dying. Every day we live, we are getting closer to our death.”

This post led to widespread speculation about his health. In response, Simmons’ spokesperson, Tom Estey, clarified, “I can confirm with 100 percent certainty that Richard is not dying. He’s, in fact, very healthy and happy. The sole purpose of the post was meant to be inspirational.”
Simmons himself addressed the confusion, saying on X, “I am not dying. It was a message about how we should embrace every day that we have. Sorry for this confusion.”

In his initial post, Simmons encouraged his followers to “enjoy your life to the fullest every single day. Get up in the morning and look at the sky… count your blessings and enjoy.” He highlighted the significance of cherishing friends and family, advising, “Tell the ones you love that you love them. Hug those people and children who you really care for. A big hug really goes a long way.”
Simmons did not initially explain why he claimed to be “dying.” Before retracting his statement, a close friend of his reassured that Simmons is “happy and healthy,” despite the alarming message.
Having stepped away from the public eye in 2014, the ’80s fitness icon has continued to engage with his fans through Facebook. In January 2024, Simmons announced that he had parted ways with his manager and publicist in pursuit of a quieter, more peaceful life.
