An apparent crowd surge left eight people dead and many more injured during the annual festival at NRG Park. People began rushing toward the stage around 9:15 p.m. CT, according to Houston Fire Chief Sam Pena. Once crowd members started passing out, panic ensued.
The show was stopped shortly after the chaos began. The final day of the festival was subsequently canceled.
On Saturday, Travis Scott issued a statement saying he was “absolutely devastated” by what took place. In a video shared on Instagram, Scott said he “could never imagine anything like this happening.” He offered prayers to the victims’ families and promised to help them.
