A heated online feud has erupted between Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles COO Diana Vare and digital creator Epicurious Creations, following a viral video teaching fans how to recreate the restaurant’s iconic dish at home.
Epicurious Creations posted a video showing viewers how to cook Roscoe’s signature chicken and waffles at home, suggesting that fans skip visiting the restaurant altogether. In response, Diana Vare commented from her Instagram account, @dv_luxe, writing:
“You can copy the recipe, but I guarantee the recipe won’t taste the same.”
This initial comment opened the floodgates for further criticism, including one user asking, “What Roscoe’s do?”
Epicurious Creations escalated the situation by posting a video featuring a massive inflatable Donald Trump doll near a Roscoe’s location.
Video:
Vare responded with a comment that fueled the controversy:
“And TRUMP still won. Sit with the winners; the conversation is different.”
In a follow-up comment, Vare clarified that the Trump doll wasn’t affiliated with Roscoe’s but rather part of an event hosted by a neighboring bar, stating:
“Lol the funny part is the internet: we didn’t even plan that. The RNC called the bar next door and reserved the space for an event. Like anybody could’ve done.”
She then addressed the ongoing boycotts, claiming:
“Y’all can stay canceling us. Business is up 20% ❤️ @realdonaldtrump.”
The digital creator responded with another video, accusing Vare of confirming their claims about the restaurant’s alleged political affiliations and shift away from its community-oriented roots.
Video:
“They don’t want our dollars. They don’t want Black dollars. They don’t want liberal dollars,” the creator said, calling for continued boycotts. They criticized Roscoe’s for no longer representing the pro-Black values the brand was once known for, adding, “They are no longer this Black-owned pro-Black staple of the community that you and I grew up on.”
Since the back-and-forth unfolded, the official Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles Instagram account has turned off comments on its posts. While no official statement has been released by the restaurant’s social media team.
The clash has sparked a wave of reactions on social media, with many divided over whether Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles still holds its cultural significance or if it has shifted away from its community roots.
