Roy Black, the legendary criminal defense attorney who represented some of the most high-profile and controversial figures in American legal history, has died at 80. His law firm confirmed his passing Monday, announcing that Black died at his Coral Gables, Florida home after battling an illness.
Over a career spanning more than five decades, Black built a reputation as one of the most formidable lawyers in the country, earning national attention for winning acquittals in challenging cases. Among his most notable clients was disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein, whose legal troubles made global headlines.
Howard Srebnick, Black’s longtime law partner, called him “the greatest criminal lawyer of our generation” and reflected on their 30-year partnership, describing Black as a teacher, mentor, and friend.
