Las Vegas Raiders Appoints Sandra Douglass Morgan as NFL's First Black Female President

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - JULY 07: Former Nevada Gaming Control Board Chair and former Commissioner of the Nevada Gaming Commission Sandra Douglass Morgan takes a question from a member of the media as she is introduced as the new President of the Las Vegas Raiders at Allegiant Stadium on July 07, 2022 in Las Vegas, Nevada. On Thursday, Sandra Douglass Morgan became the first Black woman to serve as the president of the Las Vegas Raiders.

“Her experience, integrity, and passion for this community will be invaluable to our organization,” Raiders owner Mark Davis said. “From the moment I met Sandra, I knew she was a force to be reckoned with. We are extremely lucky to have her at the helm.”

Her background includes serving as a Nevada city attorney and most recently working as a partner at Covington & Burling. She was the first Black person to chair the Nevada Gaming Control Board from 2019 to 2021.
“I have been the first in other positions that I’ve held, whether it be city attorney or Gaming Control board,” she said.

“I definitely never want to be the last, and I want to get to the point obviously where there are no more firsts,” she continued, adding that she tipped her hat to all the trailblazing women before her. “If I could be an inspiration or help or open doors for any other women or girl out there, then that’s an incredible accomplishment for me.”

After a rough couple of years, Morgan becomes the Raiders’ third president in just over a year.
