Sean Kingston could be facing over six years behind bars, as federal prosecutors push for him to be held responsible for a major fraud scheme involving at least 21 victims. Prosecutors are asking the court to recognize the full financial loss, which could increase Kingston’s sentence under federal guidelines. “Recognizing the full scope of the loss could increase the applicable sentencing range,” the government stated.
Kingston’s conviction stems from a jury finding him guilty of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and multiple counts of wire fraud tied to a $3.1 million scam involving luxury goods. Evidence included fake documents and deceptive texts used to obtain items like a 232-inch TV, a bulletproof Escalade, and custom jewelry. Prosecutors say Kingston should repay $1.17 million.
His mother, Janice Kingston, was also convicted and sentenced to five years.
“The report failed to account for all victims and the full monetary loss,” the government filing said, suggesting Sean’s sentencing could be impacted further.
