The second trailer for Ryan Murphy’s Impeachment: American Crime Story dropped on Friday.
The FX drama will highlight the affair between former President Bill Clinton and White House intern Monica Lewinski. The show will primarily be told from the perspectives of Lewinski, Linda Tripp, and Paula Jones. It will cover the discovery of the affair, which led to Clinton being impeached in 1998.
The trailer for the 10 episode series opens with Lewinski, played by Beanie Feldstein, and Tripp, played by Sarah Paulson, sitting across from one another. Tripp begins asking Lewinski about her dating life, guessing it must be someone in power.
The trailer then moves to Tripp, acknowledging she knows about the affair and has “some very sensitive information.”
The trailer progresses through the storyline before ending on a late-night phone call between Clinton, played by Clive Owen, and Lewinski. Lewinski is seen at home when the phone rings. “Hi, handsome,” she answers. Clinton replies, “Hey,” in the end scene.
Impeachment, written by Sarah Burgess, will debut on FX on September 7.
The storyline is based on Jeffrey Toobin’s book titled A Vast Conspiracy: The Real Story of the Sex Scandal That Nearly Brought Down a President. The disgraced former contributor for the New Yorker did not serve as a consultant on the show. Instead, Lewinski serves as a producer on the show.
