Rap Sh!t has been picked up by HBO Max for a second season.
Executive producer Issa Rae said, “We’re so happy to play in the world of ‘Rap Sh!t’ for another season with this incredibly talented team.”
If you don’t know, Rap Sh!t is about two estranged high school friends, Shawna (Aida Osman) and Mia (KaMillion) from Miami, who reunite and start a rap group.
Aside from City Girls, Kevin “Coach K” Lee and Pierre “P” Thomas of Quality Control Films and Sara Rastogi of Rae-founded HOORAE also served as executive producers.
HBO Max renewed the series less than two weeks after the Season 1 finale. In August, as many as 36 titles were expected to be removed to save the streaming service from its alleged $50 billion hole.
According to Variety, Rae’s latest deal with WarnerMedia is for five years and worth $40 million.
“She’s obviously very talented, and she’s very prolific,” HBO and HBO Max chief content officer Casey Bloys said of Rae. “It’s been very good to work with Issa personally, but also as a company because she’s seeded a lot of talent elsewhere.”
