The two-man race for the NBA’s Most Valuable Player has fans debating their pick as the season winds down. Oklahoma City Thunder star guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Denver Nuggets big man Nikola Jokic have each proven to be irreplaceable, with their impact putting both teams in a strong position to host a first-round playoff matchup. The two teams just wrapped up a back-to-back series on Sunday and Monday.

Shai made a strong MVP case on Sunday, finishing with 40 points, eight rebounds, five assists, and three blocks in a 127-103 win on ABC. Jokic responded on Monday, leading Denver to victory with 35 points, 18 rebounds, and eight assists while shooting 75% from the field and 80% from the free-throw line.
Jokic’s recent 20/20/20 game against Phoenix has only added to his growing legend. Even LeBron James superfan Shannon Sharpe acknowledged Jokic’s dominance on his web show Nightcap with co-host Chad Ochocinco.
“Shai is going to win the MVP and he should, but make no mistake—the best player in the world is Nikola Jokic,” Sharpe said. “Nikola Jokic is the best player in the world and it is not close. As great as Shai is, ain’t nobody seeing Jokic.”
Sharpe also showed love to Shai, highlighting the Thunder’s 53-12 record—the best in the NBA—which has propelled the young star to a commanding lead in the MVP race. If they maintain their momentum, this would mark Oklahoma City’s second consecutive No. 1 seed heading into the playoffs.
