Shaquille O’Neal is lending a helping hand to the family of #JazmineBarnes; the 7-year-old Texas girl who was fatally shot during a drive-by last month, according to reports.
Last week, O’Neal and Officer Kenneth Miles of the Houston Police Department delivered a check to the home of Barnes’ family, according to CNN. O’Neal confirmed the news with CNN, and the two shared a photo of them smiling in front of a private plane.
O’Neal isn’t the only professional sports player extending financial assistance. Earlier this month, NFL star #DeAndreHopkins promised to give his playoff check to the Barnes’ family. “When I see Jazmine Barnes’ face, I see my own daughter,” the 26-year-old football player tweeted. “I’m pledging my playoff check this week to help her family with funeral costs and to support #shaunking #SherriffED_HCSO #SylvesterTurner in bringing this man to justice. On Saturday, I will be playing in your honor, Jazmine.” Hopkins’ check comes out to $29,000, according to ESPN.
Barnes was murdered on Dec. 30. Police have arrested a 20-year-old man, who is suspected to have shot Barnes while she was riding with her mother and three sisters. According to a statement from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, homicide investigators filed a capital murder charge against Eric Black Jr. on Sunday, Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said in a statement on Facebook.
Barnes’ funeral was on Tuesday.
