The sister of Los Angeles Clippers star Kawhi Leonard was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole on Friday for her role in the 2019 murder of an older woman.
Kimesha Williams, the NBA player’s sister, and Candace Townsell were convicted of first-degree murder, robbery, and elder abuse back in February. Townsell was also sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
The two followed 84-year-old Afaf Assad into a women’s bathroom at the Pechanga Resort Casino to rob her.
Assad was found unconscious in the bathroom with a cracked skull on the floor by a custodian and a woman who was in a bathroom stall. She died five days after the attack.
Williams and Townsell quickly exited the casino after the attack but were identified through surveillance footage.
A relative confirmed Williams’ relationship to Leonard to The Press-Enterprise in 2019.
