Six Flags America Cancels Fright Fest for Final Season, Focuses on Family Events

Six Flags America will close out its final season without one of its most popular events.

The Bowie, Maryland, amusement park has confirmed that Fright Fest, its annual Halloween attraction, will not return this fall. This marks the first time since 1999 that the park will skip Fright Fest, which has long been a fall staple featuring haunted houses, costumed performers, and Halloween-themed rides.

A spokesperson told reporters that the decision was made to create a different type of experience for the park’s final months.

“Our goal is to provide a family-friendly and memorable final fall season of operation. We’ve made the strategic decision to focus on daytime activities that the whole family can enjoy,” the park’s statement read.

Instead, the park will spotlight Kids Boo Fest, a daytime Halloween event designed for younger visitors.

Introduced in 2022, Boo Fest will run on weekends from September 13th through November 2nd and will include themed rides, seasonal entertainment, and family activities.

The park acknowledged that the change might come as a surprise to longtime fans.

“We understand that change can sometimes be challenging, and we deeply appreciate the support and enthusiasm of our guests,” the statement continued.

Season passholders were notified of the cancellation and offered tickets to attend Fright Fest at Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey, the closest location still hosting the event.

The decision follows the parent company’s announcement in May that Six Flags America and its water park, Hurricane Harbor, will shut down permanently at the end of the 2025 season.
